Here are some common signs your heart is breaking in your business…
-You have low energy.
-You are not excited about getting out of bed in the morning.
-You resist picking up the phone to talk to clients.
-You have to force yourself to “sit down and do your work.”
-You live in fear about money.
-You have a consistent dull feeling that something is off.
-You think you “should” like what you’re doing, but you don’t.
-You used to like what you are doing, but now it feels kind of lack-luster.
-You have a feeling there is something different or better you could be doing.
-You are fiendishly jealous of other people who seem happy.
-You want to slap the next person you see online who is sitting in a luxury hotel talking about how fabulous their life is!
I could make a list of about 100 things. And believe me when I tell you, I have felt most of the things on that list. It’s why I write about happiness so much. I am very sensitive to being out of my groove. I HATE it! H-A-T-E it. So if you see yourself in that list, I so feel your pain. However, you don’t have to stay in pain about your business and neither do I.
Life is to be enjoyed, explored, devoured. Not that every moment will be happy, happy, happy, but if you are not feeling a general good vibe in your life, something is off. And since we spend the majority of our time working, if that thing that’s off is in our businesses, we gotta fix it pronto.
I often say, there are no business model police. If you are not creating a business that makes you feel good in the doing of it, you need to re-evaluate. We live in a super-niched world. You can make money doing almost anything with the right information, technology and support, so why not do what you love?
So here are a few questions to ask yourself to help get you heart-healthy again:
1. What, if anything,DO I like about my work right now? How can I do more of THAT?
2. If money and time were no issue, how would I be spending my time?
3. Who would I most like to emulate? (If you say Beyonce, I will not judge you;)
4. When was the last time I felt completely in flow and lost track of all time? What was I doing?
5. What is my heart’s longing for? What is my soul yearning to do? (Big, deep question there, but let’s get real. You wanna be happy or not?)
If you spend a little time with those questions, it should give you some clues about where you really want to be focusing your energy. I know for me, my list always, always, always includes more singing. If this diva isn’t chirping away, well ya know my heart is aching. What is that thing for you?
